Weekend Update: Birthday in Asheville

Thursday, JRB and I began our trip to Asheville, NC. We went to Asheville for the first time in October, and loved it. So why not go back again? This time we did a little bit of hiking, relaxing, hot tubing, sight seeing, and a lot of eating (that stays the same no matter where we go).

After arriving, we had an excellent dinner at Tupelo Honey Cafe. JRB and I got the grit cakes and shared the nutty fried chicken. Holy deliciousness! Then we decided to preserve our energy and binge watch How I Met Your Mother in the hotel room. No, we’re not addicted at all.

Friday, my birthday, we slept in and then brunched at Biscuit Head.

I got the Benedict Biscuit (a biscuit topped with country ham, poached egg, and remoulade sauce). Hello, sodium!!

This place really was amusement for the eyes. How many people want to put succulents in a coffee pot now?

Biscuit Head was in a part of town we hadn’t seen yet, so we walked off our breakfast while exploring shops and markets.

We finished the birthday off with the best ribs EVER at 12 Bones, some time at the gym, a couples massage, a bangin’ dinner at Zambra and hanging out with our friends Brady and Allison at the Lexington Avenue Brewery .

For those of you who are wondering, Josh got me an electric blanket (that I am currently sitting under) for my birthday. This was thoughtful because 1.) My feet and hands are freezing 95 percent of the time. 2.) We have had a few “heated discussions” (no pun intended) about how I shouldn’t put my cold feet and hands on him. 3.) I hate getting into a cold sheets. 4.} Really electric blankets are just awesome. I spent each night (or every spare second) reading this book (great gift from my bff Elizabeth) under the heated sheets.

Saturday began with a favorite of ours- Local Girl Eatery. I got the Sweet Potato Scramble (eggs, sweet potatoes, green onions, shitake mushrooms, bacon and sausage topped with a flavorful hot sauce).

Then we set out for a hike… only the weather had different plans. We weren’t able to go to the trail we wanted because the Blue Ridge Parkway was closed in certain sections. This forced us to drive and hike several smaller trails, which was fine because we saw some of this stuff.

ImageImage We explored Looking Glass Falls, Slippery Rock, and a bunch of no-name, but still cool trails.

That night we ate at Strada Italiano, tried but failed to get into Wicked Weed, and had dessert at The Black Bird.

We ended our weekend (of course with more food) with breakfast at Tupelo Honey Cafe. So glad we got to see these two!

Thank you, everyone, for the sweet birthday texts, phone calls, and social media shootouts. You guys really know how to make a girl feel special and loved!
